Happy New Year!

Hi all! I know it’s been awhile, but I’m back to my blog and I’m changing it up a bit. Up until this point, as you can tell, this blog has contained information and posts directed primarily at business, and more specifically, internet-based ventures. While I’m still interested in those pursuits, my blog is now going a different direction. I’m going to have fun with this site and you may all follow along if you like, or not. From this point on, I will be posting any content that I feel is appropriate to the site; any information that tickles my fancy and I feel is pertinent to place on this blog. So for starters, I will post about this glorious new year that our gracious God has seen fit to grant to us.

How was your 2010? Mine included many ups and downs, happy times and times that tested my patience and endurance. I made new friends, fortified old relationships, and said goodbye to some very dear individuals. This is the way God intended it:

To everything there is a season,

A time for every purpose under heaven:

A time to be born, And a time to die…

A time to weep, And a time to laugh…

A time to keep silence, And a time to speak;

A time to love, And a time to hate;

A time of war, And a time of peace…

He has made everything beautiful in its time. (Ec. 3:1-2, 4, 8,11)

I’m expecting great things in 2011. I’m excited to see what is in store and where my life will be led by that Great Designer and Protector.

If you’re currently gagging or even read this far in my post, take heart! Not all of my posts will be as sentimental or reflective as this. I hope to use this, my little corner of the internet, as a place to create material that will cause readers to think, laugh, and add their ideas. Be not dismayed, I will do my best to not make this site a waste of your valuable time, not simply a place to dump the innermost depths of my soul… (‘bleh’).

Thank you for following me thus far and please leave any comment that you see fit to add to this website. Until next time…the cautiously intrepid blogger signs out ;)

“The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen” (Phil. 4:23).

How Insurance Gurus are Using Facebook for Leads

I know, you think online marketing is only for those strange network marketers and video geeks, right? However, now more than ever, small business owners are coming online to social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter to spread the word about their brick and mortar business or LLC.

Take our friend Bob (real name hidden to protect his identity ;-) for instance. He has discovered the power of Facebook for promoting his independent insurance agency. Any connections he makes on Facebook are instantly exposed to his business without costing him one red cent.

Another great way business people from all areas are promoting their businesses through internet portals is with the free blog. This is an incredible weapon when used as a hub for all internet marketing activity. Here is how they use it:

  1. Get your free self-branded blog
  2. Add valuable content
  3. Put up a lead magnet so you can keep in touch with interested prospects
  4. Make connections on Facebook, build relationships, casually advertise your business, and direct them to your blog
  5. Enjoy the sales! These are only two of the many options available to any business person online.

No matter if you are a carpenter and need local leads, or owner of a global shipping operation, these two free marketing methods will have you on your way to more exposure, leads, and sales.

Do you have any other marketing advice for entrepreneurs of any industry? Leave a comment!

Leader to Server?

Leader to Server?

We hear a lot about great leaders; there are countless books and materials written about developing good leadership skills and abilities. But when it comes right down to it, what is a leader? What qualities and characteristics are essential to the ability to lead? Is it the ability to have people do whatever you want? Like Hitler? Or the ability to find out what they want and to direct those individuals to a solution to their problem?

After thinking on this subject a bit and really looking at the motives driving me to be a leader, I stumbled upon an interesting idea, one which may or may not have occurred to you. My epiphany, after a moment of reflection was this: to become a great leader, you must first become a great server. Others may have put this more eloquently in the past, but this is how my mind grasped it.

The next car in my train of thought was obviously, what does it mean to be a great server? It means communicating with individuals, listening to what they say, discovering their needs, and then doing all in your power to assist them in meeting those needs. Be the ‘solution master’! A bully is one who always commands, takes, and coerces others. Conversely, a true leader is one who really listens, gives, and helps. Individuals always take the advice of one who knows their needs and assists them in meeting those needs.

One of the best ways I have found to acquaint myself with individuals who have problems and provide solutions is volunteering. Volunteering is a word that can encompass many different activities and talents. Do you enjoy construction? Playing music? Baking? There’s an outlet for serving everywhere we turn, no matter what your talent! Every time we step out and serve, we develop a more well-rounded appreciation for others’ situations and build foundations for future leadership.

Needless to say, a big part of my life at present, is volunteering. I enjoy working once each week for several hours at our local Rescue Mission’s café. I serve customers in the Restoration Café, a vocational training center for students in the Mission’s Life Recovery Program. This experience has opened my eyes to a group of people with a new set of issues that affect millions every day. I’m thankful for this opportunity, as I am now much better equipped to understand and relate to this demographic of society.

“We must be silent before we can listen.

We must listen before we can learn.

We must learn before we can prepare.

We must prepare before we can serve.

We must serve before we can lead.

 William Arthur Ward

So get out of your comfort zone, listen, learn, volunteer, and discover what it means to become a true leader!

Oh, bye the way; have you done any volunteer work lately? Tell me about it!

5 Tips to Making Money with Social Media

5 Tips to Making Money with Social Media

“I’m on Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook.” Now how do I make money?

Social media can be overwhelming at times; so many things to keep track of, so many different sites to choose from. But what it all boils down to is how to make money using these amazing tools.

Well, let me give you five pointers to light your way.

  1. Connect – Network marketing is all about networking (as the name implies). If you’re not out there building real relationships with real people, your business will never reach its full potential. You’ll have missed what this industry is all about. Social networking sites are all about connecting
  2. Need – What makes people buy? Need, want, desire. You know, the old: “find someone’s pain and relieve it.” That’s just what you can do after establishing relationships on social networks. Listen to what people tell you; don’t just pitch your business at them.
  3. Control – Social media allows you to control your contacts and content. You can put whatever product or information in front of your contacts that you want.
  4. Assist – Since you have all the control over content, this is the perfect opportunity for you to relieve the pain your contact told you about by guiding them to a solution: content. Lead them to your product or articles that will assist them. If you sell vitamins and they need a healthier lifestyle, now’s your chance to really, honestly show them how your product can help them.
  5. Money – Now that you’ve made a relationship, eased pain, and showed yourself to be valuable, people will want to buy whatever you have. They won’t feel like they’re being pitched on another opportunity or “out-of-this-world” product; they’ll trust you because you listened, and gave them a useful solution.

Making money with social media isn’t hard, and it doesn’t have to be complicated. Just take a little time and connect with people, listen to them, and really provide value that will help them with their pain. Once you’ve done this, you’ll have committed, qualified, customers and business partners in no time.

Top 5 Ways to Market Your Product

Did your up line tell you that your product was so hot it would sell itself? Not so. Don’t believe me? Take your hot product and set it out on the sidewalk and see how much money you make.

No. In reality products don’t sell themselves, even if they’re really great.

So now that you’ve decided that products don’t actually sell themselves and you do have to do at least a little marketing, what do you do? How do you start? Well, there are many ways, but I’m just going to give you the 5 top options:

          1. Friends and family – although these may not be the greatest people to pitch your opportunity to, they do make great customers. They trust you and many have a need for what you’re selling; be it cosmetics, vitamins, or phone cards.

           2. Trade shows – think Avon here. You know the Women’s expos or trade shows where people come to buy and are ready to be sold to.

           3. Home parties – if your product is conducive to this, like Tupperware or Mary Kay, have one of your friends set up a party for you at their home and invite others. It’s a great way to meet people face-to-face.

           4. Giveaways – have a free sample giveaway. This will allow others to try your products and decide that they like them and need more.

            5. Classifieds – this might seem really old school, and lame, but classifieds are cheap or free and get your product information in front of people. You can place them in a newspaper or now online.

Selling your product is a great way to make a little money while building your downline, or a LOT of money if that’s the aspect you’re focusing on.

Article Marketing

Article Marketing
PPC, SEO, Twitter, those are all buzz words right now in the online business community. However, hiding behind all those flashy techniques and strategies is another way to get your information, business, and name out into cyberspace. I’m talking about article marketing.

Using article marketing in your business campaigns is a great way to establish your credibility as a leader with useful information, who is willing and able to share with others. So the question is: “How do you use articles to grow your business?”

First, we must recap a little about how to write an effective article. You must first pick a subject that is interesting, relevant, and useful. Then support your subject/”big idea” with the body, comprised of examples, details, statistics, that all go back to the main point. Wrap it all up with a nice conclusion that doesn’t leave anything hanging, and slap a unique, eye-catching title on for added viewing.

Now that you know the steps involved in writing an article, you can use them to develop your business by providing value. Always write material that assists others; don’t just pitch your business, people don’t want to be sold. As you write, even tell secrets that have helped you. To be a leader you must give without want. The more you give the more people respect and admire you.

So now that you have this amazingly well-written article that contains gobs of free, valuable information, what do you do with it? This is where Google comes in handy. Just search: “free article submission” and a ton of websites pop up. Simply register and post for free. But wait! Don’t post on every single one, multiple times each day; that’s redundant. Only put it on about five sites every three-four days. Two other great places to post are your blog/website and business networking sites.

In the long run, article marketing will grow your business by establishing you as a knowledgeable leader who can provide value and through that bring you prospects. When you post your articles always use the author’s bio or resource box to mention how people can contact you. By developing relationships and helping people in this way, you’ll produce qualified business partners that will trust you and grow your business.

Article Writing Tips

Article Writing Tips

Whether we like it or not, there comes a time in many people’s lives when they’re forced to write an article, whether it’s for the school paper, a blog, or an online business. It doesn’t matter if you’re a regular William Shakespeare or you don’t even know how to write a five paragraph essay, most of us are obliged to write. So the question becomes, how do you write a good article? Well, I’m about to give you the basic steps necessary for composing that award winning article.

First you need to have a subject, a purpose, a ‘big idea’ to build your article around. For instance, the big idea in this piece is: “How to write an article;” simple, yet helpful. Make sure your subject is relevant, useful, and something people care about. Having a solid focus will help you mold your whole article.

Once you’ve found your subject, you need to add a title. Now, you don’t necessarily have to create a title at this point in the process, sometimes it’s easier to wait until you have the whole piece written to come up with a title. Do whatever is most comfortable for you. What you want to do with the title, no matter when you create it, is grab the readers’ attention. Don’t have something generic or boring. Questions work well for getting attention and are one of my favorite tactics. Another way is a fact or an exciting statistic: “80% of businesses fail. Here’s why.” Make sure it is relevant to the rest of the article and pulls the reader in.

Now that you have a direction for your piece it’s time to flesh it out with facts, figures, and juicy details. So go do some research; find some content to build around your subject, to prove your point, explain your idea, spur others to action. Some good ways to gather such information are: interview the experts— they’ll love to tell you what they know; also, go online and find reports, pictures, and statistics. However, when doing all this, remember your main idea, your thesis, make sure your facts, stats, and examples are relevant and will prove your point and get your ideas across. Everything should support that big idea. Remember to keep going back to your subject to make sure you’re on track.

Once you’ve fleshed out your article with examples and interviews, you need to put a solid conclusion on it. A conclusion should ideally concisely wrap up your whole article. Perhaps end it with a call to action (go do something), or a nice summary of your major points. In any case, you want to make sure you’re wrapping up your whole piece in it—we don’t want any loose ends flying around.

So to recap: 1. Have a definite subject, make it interesting and helpful. 2. Grab your readers with an amazing, irresistible title. 3. Gather info that supports and validates your main point.  4. Have a solid conclusion that leaves nothing to the imagination. Follow these basic rules and you’ll be creating effective articles in no time.

Quest for the Perfect Cookie

Quest for the Perfect Cookie:

The quest for the perfect cookie continues as I make another batch of cookies. This time I use 2 different recipes — one from an ancient Better Homes and Gardens cookbook (you know, the one your mom has, the checkered red and white one) entitled “Chocolate Chippers” and the other from my wonderful copy of the Tast of Home cookbook entitled “Cindy’s Chocolate Chip Cookies.”

I noticed that they both had shortening in them, I thought this might help them last longer and puff up a bit. Alas, I pulled from the oven yummy-looking cookies that were flat as pancakes! Paper thin cookies are just not my idea of the perfect cookie. Am I wrong?

As I thought of what it was that could have gone wrong, it dawned on me … oops! I whipped the batter too long! That probably wasn’t the best idea in the world.

4 recipes down and still no perfect cookie. Another day, another recipe, as the search for the perfect cookie continues.
